DENISE GALLAGHER + ROTTEN TO THE CORE

April 19, 2022
Illustrator Denise Gallagher loves wearing fashion that is unique, playful or kind of "out there". She recently discovered a shop that creates dresses and jumpsuits using bold textiles designed by artists. The patterns they use are fun and different from the mainstream. She was inspired to try her hand at creating a pattern that would push the boundaries of tradition and work well as a textile. The result was "Rotten to the Core," a playful pattern with a wonky peach and pear color scheme. The concept is a fruit and flower mash-up invaded by a swarm of flies with a menacing dagger thrown in for drama. The fruit is rotting and dripping, and the flies are buzzing. Yet the flowers are blooming, and everything is peach! She hand-lettered the type, "Rotten," to add to the tongue-in-cheek attitude of the design.

Denise shared, "I'm so excited with the result; now I'm working on two more designs for a series of quirky, cheeky, funky patterns. These patterns will be available for licensing for creative companies who love to stand out from the crowd and push those boundaries just a little bit."
