Amy Mikler was asked to shoot the library rebuild for Meta and their “shopping concept” in Austin, Texas. One day, one location, four talent wearing one outfit each, with a goal of delivering 50 unique images. Each shot was to have a thread of blue in it, capture genuine and realistic shopping experiences, as well as some influencer-type shots, and feel naturally lit.
This shoot was unusual in that no art director would be on set, only an agency producer, so Amy would be directing all activity with minimal zoom feedback from the client and agency. So to nail down client preferences Amy scouted the location a couple weeks in advance with producer, assist and prop stylist, and created a detailed gallery of possible store vignettes and activities for client review. After calls, emails, and a pre-pro, Amy and her team arrived shoot day with a schedule and a defined list of areas and activities to focus on.
Shoot day the team and talent arrived at dark 30 as the location gave strict interior access between 6 am to noon, and 1-4 pm for exterior shots. While talent was prepped in a production trailer, Amy and her team assembled lighting, with everyone ready to walk in at 6 am. With the need to move quickly between setups in a store with multiple light sources of different color values (skylights, windows, ceiling lights, and LED mirrors and cases) they had to be nimble and versatile with lighting, and also able to block skylights from the roof. So with continuous lighting on rollers, ladders ready to get on the roof, and zoom for client and agency, they methodically shot their way around the store. The prop stylists were always one step ahead changing displays, populating empty planters, and making sure a thread of blue was in every shot.
Amy wrapped the shoot 30 minutes early because the client was satisfied and excited, knowing that they captured everything they wanted and more!
